July 28 7pm a Community Conversation One-Act
SLEEPAWAY by Paige Scott
Outdoor Staged Reading
"The Park" at the Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre
Sleep Away is a one-act performance about the kindness of strangers, and women's journeys of resilience and hope. Nina (Shawnte Gaston) welcomes stranger, Reese (Brittany Magee), into her home for a brief respite. During their time together, they discover they have more in common than they anticipated, and find a newfound trust in humanity. Sleepaway, directed by Jolene Mentink Moffatt and written by local playwright Paige Scott, is based on the true stories of several Indianapolis women's journeys in recovery. The performance will be immediately followed by a moderated community conversation.
THE CONVENT by Jessica Dickey
Outdoor Staged Reading *NEW LOCATION*
The Outdoor Stage, District Theatre
Mark your calendar for August 13-15 at the Allen Whitehill Clowes Amphitheater on Marian University campus! Summit presents a staged reading of THE CONVENT by Jessica Dickey, directed by Summit's own Kelsey Leigh Miller.
"The Convent is a toothy comedy about desire, devotion, and the mystery of intrinsic divinity."
"Jessica Dickey...has written a moving and poetic new play called The Convent about women on retreat. Like all of Dickey’s plays, it is a fierce combination of intellect and emotion: a gathering place for smart, interesting people stuck in difficult circumstances to make choices that will break their hearts, and ours."
