Welcome to Summit's staged reading of HELEN by Ellen McLaughlin! We greatly appreciate your support and attendance at this event, especially in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Please be sure to follow displayed Covid-19 precautions out of respect and care for your fellow patrons, the actors, Summit staff, volunteers, and our generous hosts at Marian University. We sincerely hope you enjoy this evening of live storytelling among friends and fellow members of our beautiful Indianapolis community. Thank you for supporting local theatre and the performing arts during this challenging time!
Kelsey Johnson (Helen) is an actor, writer and educator here in Indianapolis. After graduating from Ball State University in 2016, her career has taken her a number of places. From being an acting apprentice at Actors Theatre of Louisville, to writing museum theatre for Conner Prairie, to being a classroom theatre teacher, she's done so much! When she's not acting, writing or teaching, Kelsey loves singing old spirituals with her grandmother and getting lost in the woods.
Maria Argentina Souza (Servant) is thrilled to return to the physical boards with Summit Performance Indianapolis. Regional: Juliet (Romeo and Juliet), Lucinda (The History of Cardenio), Lily Booker Current Economic Conditions: A Comedy, Antigone (The Theban Plays), Eliza Doolittle (Pygmalion), Liz (ReEntry), Adriana (The Comedy of Errors), Ophelia (Hamlet), and Libby (Blue Window). Off-Broadway: Miranda (The Tempest), Mel (Does This Woman Have a Name), Woman (HAK). Maria received her MFA from The Actors Studio Drama School.
Christa Shoot Grimmer (Io) is thrilled to join the Summit team to put a little theater back into the world in this epic year of our lord, 2020. She has served as a full-time Actor/Interpreter at The Children’s Museum of Indpls for 11 years. Shoot Grimmer has enjoyed working alongside Children’s Theatre Institute, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Junior Achievement, Gemini Children’s Theatre (Pittsburgh), Actors Theatre of Indiana, Footlite Musicals, Spotlight Players, Hendricks Civic Theatre, Rough Magic Productions, Indy Fringe, EclecticPond Theatre Company, ACT-OUT, Saltworks Theatre Company (Pittsburgh), Conner Prairie Players, University of Indianapolis, and CTI Productions. She sends a theatrical nod toward teacher/playwright husband, Jeremy Grimmer, and their son.
Enjoli Desiree (Athena) is a proud, professional actress of the Indianapolis area. Recently seen in Sleeping Beauty with Pyramid Players and Same Blood with Summit Performance, Enjoli is happy to help present Helen. Enjoli is grateful for all the support she has received over the years through this community!
Adam Tran (Menalaus) was last seen on a Summit stage in their inaugural production, Silent Sky. You may have seen him as Donald in You Can't Take it With You at Indiana Repertory Theatre in 2019 or even possibly as Astrov in Character House's production of Uncle Vanya. The only audience to his work since March has been his cats and his wonderfully supportive and at times humoring wife: Kelsey Leigh Miller. Since the Pandemic and ensuing quarantine has started, Adam has worked out, participated in several virtual readings, watched everything on all of the streaming apps, eaten all of the food in the fridge multiple times, and started writing an album (more on that at a later date). He'd like to thank Julie and Lauren for this opportunity and their faith and an extra dose of gratitude to Kelsey Leigh whose love and wisdom is a perpetual source of inspiration.
Julie Mauro (Director) has directed and acted in Indy since 2010. She wrote and directed Strip For Change, a smash-hit comedy at IndyFringe's DivaFest brought back for a second stand-alone run. She most recently performed with NoExit in a redux Zoom reading of Yellow Wallpaper, which originally earned her a place on the list of Indy’s Top 5 Must-See actresses (SkyBlue Blog). She has taught theatre in Indianapolis, Chicago, and South Korea, and studied at the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon, England.
